Parent Teacher Conferences
At the end of the first quarter of school we have parent teacher conferences to go along with the release of our report card grades so that teachers can talk to the parents about their student's progress or lack there of. Since I did not have a car and the school is 20 minutes away, my parents told me that I should stay at school and study and they'd pick me up after conferences at 8 o'clock. After studying for an hour I got pretty restless and needed a break. I started walking around the school looking for something to do and it turned out that my assistant principal needed help setting up for the conferences. I helped him set up tables and timers as well as organize the chairs into the most efficient pattern so that the parents would be comfortable but also encouraged to move to each teacher with a decent pace. I worked with him setting up for about an hour and then he asked me to hand out the student's report cards. The most difficult part of the night was finding the student's report-card in the huge box which was alphabetized, but since I go to an International school I couldn't understand some of the parents as they were born overseas and have pretty thick accents. I was trying to understand what they were saying and trying not to have to ask them to repeat themselves as I felt that this was embarrassing for me. Overall it was a good experience because I became closer to my assistant principal and I learned how to listen to a wider variety of accents and understand them better.
